USB Wireless Adapters
USB Wireless adapters / cards have some advantages and disadvantages over PCI networking cards. The Advantages of USB are: 1) 802.11b matches the speed of USB 1.1 and almost all PCs have USB 1.1, this means a USB 802.11b card is almost universal. 2) USB devices can easily be disconnected / moved between devices. This makes it easy to switch a single adapter between PCs for infrequent use. 3) USB adapters are usable by both Laptops and PCs because both type of devices have USB ports. Disadvantages of USB include: 1) Easier for someone to steal your adapter in a crowded area. 2) 802.11g / 802.11a adapters must be USB 2.0. Not every PC / notebook has USB 2.0. USB 1.1 is not fast enough for 802.11g / 802.11a. 3) Somewhat higher CPU usage vs PCI cards.
